Objective
With this project, I want to tackle an experience that can be neither good nor bad in my opinion, which is the idea of getting nicknames.
While for some, getting a nickname can be a cutesy thing or just fun thing between friends, however, the experience tend to shift a bit after being nicknamed by people who cannot say your name correctly. Most of the time, it starts off with people being curious of my name, and asking about it, then failing to repeat what I told them due to a pronunciation error, getting frustrated and asking me nicely if they can call me by a different nickname instead. Thought as I mentioned above that experience does not bother me on a fundamental level, it does ticks me off from time to time, with how people easily forget my name or even nick name afterwards, by not putting in the effort to learn it. As someone who's really bad with names already, I do understand it, though it does seem a bit rude to not even attempt to say it right.
Materials:
A working camera
name tags
pen
audio mixer - Audacity
Art Process
The video that I choose to film revolves around a short experience of going into a place of familiarity and being faced with people "hitting" me up with new nicknames every couple of seconds, which was inspired heavily by some high school experience. Then, I took all the sound out and replace it with tracks of seemingly appropriate soundtrack, both to enhance the act of slapping but also to give it a light atmosphere.
Reflection
I think that overall, the whole project could be directed better, with controlled lighting, a more concrete script even and of course, better soundtrack. Though, to keep it a light project, this was the approach I decided to go with.
